Script Terminology

What does INT/EXT mean?

- INT = Interior (indoor scene)
- EXT = Exterior (outdoor scene)
- INT/EXT= Scene transitions between interior and exterior

These are standard screenplay designations.

What does DAY/NIGHT mean?

These indicate the time of day in the story:
- DAY = Daytime in the narrative
- NIGHT = Nighttime in the narrative

Note: This is story time, not production day/night. Production scheduling may film a "DAY" scene at night using lighting.

What's the difference between a Set and a Location?

Set:
- Extracted from the script
- The narrative location (e.g., "JOY'S HOUSE")
- Where the story takes place

Location:
- Physical filming address
- Where you actually film
- User-entered, not from script

Example: The set "JOY'S HOUSE" might be filmed at the location "123 Main St, Los Angeles, CA"

See [Understanding Your Workspace](./03-understanding-your-workspace.md) for more details.

What's a scene heading?

The full text at the start of a scene. Example:

`INT. JOY'S HOUSE - KITCHEN - DAY`

This includes:
- INT/EXT (Interior)
- Set name (JOY'S HOUSE)
- Subset (KITCHEN)
- Time of day (DAY)
